Melatonin is considered to be safe when the intake is through the mouth or injected into the body for the short term or applied directly to the skin
However, when you take melatonin from the mouth, it is safer for a more extended period. It is recommended not to drive or use machinery for four to five hours after intake of melatonin. As per the research, it has been examined that up to two years it’s safe to take from the mouth, but there are specific side effects of melatonin. These are:

- Sleepiness in irregular time
- Cramps in the stomach
However, there are other precautions also which you should take with respect to melatonin. These are:
- Avoid intake of melatonin during pregnancy period and breastfeeding
You should not use melatonin when you are trying to get pregnant as it may interfere with the ovulation period thereby making it more difficult for you to get pregnant. It is recommended not to take such pills while you are breastfeeding.

Intake of melatonin can create bleeding issues by increases the flow of blood from the body which leads to misbalances and causes various disorders.

From multiple doses, the health of children will not be irrespective of how it’s been taken. The person who is suffering from high blood pressure shouldn’t take melatonin since it increase the blood pressure. They should ignore it, especially if they are already taking medication to control their blood pressure level.

- Feeling drowsiness

- Insomnia issues
